About the GYEDC

Established in 1995, the Greater Yuma Economic Development Corporation (GYEDC) originated as the designated regional economic development organization for Southwest Arizona. GYEDC is supported by a diverse industry base of investors including but not limited to agriculture, education, financial, manufacturing, professional services, and development companies. The Cities of San Luis, Somerton, Wellton, Yuma and Yuma County along with 100+ private investors support GYEDC’s vision and mission.

The Person

The Greater Yuma Economic Development Corporation is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced professional with a proven track record of providing leadership in developing, coordinating and implementing economic development strategies.

The President and CEO will play a significant leadership role within the Yuma community. The ideal candidate will be able to develop and lead his/her direct team as well as a team of stakeholders toward a common goal and do so through a collaborative style of leadership.

Effective implementation including marketing, business attraction, budget development, and management is essential for this position.

Major Responsibilities

  • Be a catalyst for sustainable economic growth in the Greater Yuma region that will maintain and create jobs.
  • Maintain and execute an updated strategic plan with goals, objectives, metrics and tasks.
  • Create effective marketing and communications programs that tell the Yuma story.
  • Facilitate collaboration of the area business retention and expansion efforts to energize and accelerate existing business growth and success and support start-up businesses. Support businesses by expanding and opening new markets for locally developed goods and services.
  • With partner agencies, support the development of assets such as infrastructure, transportation, positive business climate, and amenities.
  • Ability to identify both local and regional issues and effectively manage interactions with partner organizations to achieve common goals.
  • Serve as a lead spokesperson for the organization in internal and external communications.
  • Develop and sustain trusting relationships with the leadership of prospective companies, national and international site selectors, and commercial and industrial realtors.
  • Establish a communication process that provides transparent, accurate communications and accountability to the GYEDC stakeholders.
  • Maintain stakeholder relations to sustain public and private sector investment.
  • Support development of the region as needed, economically as well as socially and politically to enhance the quality of living for businesses and the people who make them grow.
  • Engage and utilize the GYEDC Board to accomplish the mission and goals of the GYEDC.
  • Experience working with diverse groups; promotes diversity programmatically.
  • Be responsible for hiring and supervising staff.
  • Coordinate economic development activities between local and state partner organizations.
  • Be responsible for the overall administration of the organization, including finances, financial management, budget, and reporting.
  • Demonstrated collaboration with leaders within higher education, public school systems, private institutions, technical schools, and utilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university is required, supplemented by five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in a public administrative role that focuses on economic development or a related field.

Advanced degree and/or professional certification is desirable.

REFERENCES AND BACKGROUND CHECK

There will be an extensive background and reference check of candidates.  Once strong mutual interest has been established, candidates are asked to provide a list of references that should include, but not be limited to, a supervisor, a peer, a development client and a subordinate, as applicable.  Candidates will be asked to sign an authorization to release information for the purpose of the background investigation, which may include education, social media background, credit check, criminal and driving records.  Should an offer be extended prior to the completion of these checks, the offer will be made contingent on the successful completion of the reference and background checks.
