Economic Development employs development strategies focused on recruitment of new business, retention of existing business, and the expansion of the city’s employment and tax base. Economic Development also encourages the redevelopment of Historic Downtown Chandler to create an urban core that makes a positive statement for Chandler. Building tourism in Chandler is another role for the Economic Development team.
Who we are looking for
Our new team member will serve as project manager for economic development and will provide research, marketing, program development and analysis, perform business recruitment, retention and entrepreneurial start-up efforts, represent the City of Chandler as a liaison in local and regional economic development activities and present oral and written reports to City departments, community groups and other agencies.
Essential Functions

- Serves as project manager for economic development and support of the City to include research, marketing, program development and analysis.
- Performs business recruitment, retention and entrepreneurial start-up efforts.
- Represents the City as a liaison in local and regional economic development activities.
- Presents oral and written reports to City departments, community groups and other agencies.
- Assists business owners, property owners, developers, residents and community organizations in navigating the City regulatory process; investigates business compliances and concerns, forwards the information to the appropriate division and tracks follow-up with staff to ensure resolution.
- Participates on interdepartmental project teams; leads collaborative projects with other division and departments within the City.
- Develops and supports the development of agreements with stakeholders; leads the Request for Proposal (RFP) process, sales and development agreements and contracts; works with legal and Department Directors through these processes.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Principles, procedures and strategies of economic and community development, planning and zoning, demographics, economic trends, forecasts, impacts and related principles and practices; marketing and research methods, principles and procedures; database development, maintenance and presentation.
- Statistical and financial analyses and presentation; critical thinking and self-motivation; read, interpret and prepare economic, marketing, statistical and analytical documents, reports, research material and information, blueprints and maps; plan and implement economic development programs and marketing strategies.
- Operate standard office equipment, a computer and related software or programs including applications related to land use and economic planning and development.
- Operate a motor vehicle and abide by traffic laws and rules.
- Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Present a positive public image and maintain effective working relationships with other City employees, developers and the public.
Supervision
Work is performed under the supervision of the Economic Development Director. This position does not supervise others.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Economic Development, Business Administration, Statistics, Economics or a related field
- 4 years of experience in economic development, marketing or a related field
- Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

The primary duties of this class are performed in a general office environment with some field assignments. This position requires:
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions, use a telephone and communicate with others;
