Job Description

The primary purpose of the Economic Development Analyst position is business attraction to the City of Peoria. This position coordinates, directs, and implements business attraction efforts that support the attraction, recruitment, expansion, and retention of commercial, office, and industrial development; workforce development; the attraction of and assistance to domestic and international businesses. Responsibilities will also include providing technical assistance by researching, gathering data, and creating reports to support business attraction efforts. The analyst will interface with internal departments, community business members, prospect businesses and regional agencies to support continuous business attraction efforts.

This position:

  • Assists the Department Director, Chief Business Attraction Officer, and Project Manager in marketing the city to prospective businesses and industries.
  • Shows a willingness to research and reach out to potential prospects and partners.
  • Participates in economic development planning efforts, development of marketing strategies and overall goal recommendation for business attraction.
  • Maintains business attraction efforts in a detailed and up-to-date manner.
  • Organizes and attends project team meetings and workshops.
  • Schedules meetings, conference calls and progress reports.
  • Coordinates with various city departments, development team members, citizen and special interest groups, and third party consultants.
  • Prepares reports, presentations and analysis.
  • Prepares detailed meeting notes and maintains project files. Reviews documents geared towards business attraction efforts.

The ideal candidate for this position will:

  • Demonstrates ability to support business attraction efforts by way of researching prospective businesses and industries.
  • Performs analysis of business attraction efforts
  • Prepares and manages comprehensive reports.
  • Is knowledgeable of GIS mapping
  • Brings innovative ideas to spur economic development growth to include redevelopment efforts.
  • Provides quality customer services via phone calls, e-mail, or website inquiries.
  • Shows a willingness to prepare detailed and technical information and provide outreach to potential businesses seeking to relocate or expand (Outreach may be cold calls).
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes and can work jointly with internal departments, regional partners and the business community.

Other Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in business, marketing, economic development, real estate development, business administration, project management, or related field is required.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of employment in a professional-level capacity in economic development or a related area.

Preferred / Desirable Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of planning and development services.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to include social media expertise.
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Experience in a municipal or government setting, private or regional economic development organization specializing in business attraction activities.
